Approximately twice a day for the last three years, I have been asked when are we going to get started on the new library...? And so much of that time, I can't report much worthwhile... Either we've been waiting on a contract decision that I can't talk about, or a permit that just seems to take a good long time, or approval from one place or another... That's rarely a satisfying answer for you or me.

Finally, I have a little better answer. I am happy to report that this is the week that construction starts on the new library. Yes, you read that right. All that patience has paid off, and it's ok if you want to jump up in an undignified manner and do a little jig. We did.

And yes, there is a timetable for how long construction ought to take, but with the Federal grant monies involved in the project, we don't know yet how the additional review processes will affect that. So, for now, we'll just say that the new library will open in 2010.
